I have a E30RCDM 30 hp. The motor is running and the water pump quit pumping out of tell tale. So I put a new impeller kit in. I have now taken the lower unit off three times because when I start the engine the pump is not pumping. Am I missing something? The last pump I put in worked great now I am stumped. Anyone got anything?

Saturday after work I am going to blow some low pressure air thru the tell tale tubing to see if some air will come thru.

Roger that. Turned the drive shaft by hand and impeller was turning before I put the pump cover on. Water tube slid in ok plus it comes out with the pump housing when I pull the lower unit out. I am thinking some scale broke loose has it clogged somewhere. Maybe the air wil blow it back out. And to top it off I dropped my shift rod keeper and now I can’t find it.

The water tube should and usually stays in the exhaust housing.-----It should be installed in the exhaust housing ----BEFORE---you try installing the lower unit.

Roger that also. I put the water tube in the exhaust housing before I put the lower unit on

When it's running and warmed up, put the heel of your hand on top of the head. If you can hold it there comfortably for a few seconds, the temp is good (water is circulating).

Run a piece of week whacker line up into the tell tale to try and clear it.

Testing has to be done with the l.u. in a test tank or in the lake (water about half way up the leg). You can't test the pump using muffs.

Dropped the LU into test tank and pump is working as it should. I have never seen one that didn’t like the muffs.

For your information, running on muffs uses house water pressure which is FORCING water through the pump and engine. The only way to positively prove the pump is working is to dunk the lower unit in a test tank so it can actually pump water.
