Evinrude trolling motor angle adjustment

I have a 93 Evinrude foot controlled trolling motor and wondered if there is a way to adjust the shaft angle. The motor (like most) is mounted at an angle along side the gunnel which means the angle of the motor when the foot control is in the center is heading at the same angle. I'd like to have the center of the foot control travel with the motor pointing straight ahead. This would create equal travel on either side of center. I saw a ring on the shaft with 2 set screws that I thought might allow this adjustment but wasn't' sure.

Also, on the same motor it doesn't appear that there is much protection built in if you hit something. I know there is supposed to be some type of break away but I pushed on it and it doesn't seem to budge. (I probably didn't push hard enough for fear of breaking the shaft bracket.) Is there a way to adjust the tension required for this to break away?

Thanks

usually when you hit something hard you bend the shaft. i believe i would try the set screws. i know on the motor guide, you can swivel the complete head around.

Re: Evinrude trolling motor angle adjustment

This is the part where I feel like an idiot. I tried the ring with the set screws and it seems to just hold in a set of bearings. I then looked at the motor and realized what an idiot I am. All I had to do was loosen the clamp holding the motor and change the angle so the head pointed forward. Duuuhhh... I make thinkgs too difficult sometimes.

Now, if the breakaway subject would clarify itself that easily I'd be set.
