Evinrude v4 1968.Runing good,Runing bad,STOP

HI.<br />I have a evinrude v4 65hp year 68.I went out whit my boat for the firs time in 3 years.and the engine workt fine but after 4-5 minutes it did´t<br />run normal on full gas and after 4-5 minutes it skucks and then stop.the sparkplugs give sparks<br />and it have gas but don´t ignition at all.I can´t see the problem

Hi, Sebbbe.<br /><br />Your carburetors are probably gummed up, and you may have a bad water pump after sitting so long.<br /><br />Go to www.outboardrepairs.com and look up wont start and power loss. The advice there should get you back on the water.<br /><br />Good luck.

i don´t think it´s the Carburetors.i never had a problem whit them and they are realy clean.I wonder if it can be the condenser???.

How did you check it?<br /><br />Why do you ask if you aren't going to accept answers and follow advice?<br /><br />Your problem is very common. Could be alot of things, bad fuel pump (is the primer still hard), dirty carbs, water in gas (is it new or old gas?), ignition problem..... you need to give more info for anyone to help. Do you have a manual? If not, get one. It will help you track down where to start looking.

I think the good news here is that after sitting for 3 years the sucker cranked up and ran at all. The bad news is after a few minutes it sucked up some crud that had been precipitating out of the gas for 3 years and clogged a jet. This motor needs a new water pump and completely rebuilt carbs just as a matter of principal. Then you can see if anything else had deteriorated over 3 years.

If you have spark, Sebbbe, and it wont start it is almost certainly a failed fuel supply, fuel pump or gummed carbs.<br /><br />You can prove this by squirting some fuel mix directly into the carbs, then starting her. She will fire right up, run a few seconds and die.<br /><br />A thorough cleaning of the carbs and fuel pump is in order, as well as careful cleaning and flushing of the whole fuel system.<br /><br />Good luck.

here is more info.<br />the engine was in water for 3 years ago.the rotor and distrobutor was crackt and now in spring i bought new ones it started just fine and teh water was circulate so i did´t change the impeller.Last week it was in water for about 10 minutes only.yestoday this happend.it had new frech gas the sparkplugs are almoust new and she gives sparks.But she wont fire anything even if a put some frech gas in the cyl,intake manifold(strange!!). I heard from someone taht if the condenser are bad the sparplugs can´t spark in hi presure!?? but i don´t knowe.

"Super Update"<br />Now i checkt the carburretor and it´s superclean canalans and everything.Allso checkt the gaspump and it spits like a hor.. horse.so it has gas!!!<br />I think it´s the condenser but i´m not sure.it´s really strange becouse she wont fire just ones but she give sparks.is the "condenser whit hi pressure"story true??? Realy need some more superbrain and advice on this one.(I wish to catch some fish this year)

after pulling the plugs are they wet? this is a good start to see if you are getting any fuel to the combustion chamber. if they are wet maybe your right i dont know? but this is the first thing i would check.

the check of the carburettor: i opend it and checkt all the canals...jo jam att all (superclean).people says that if the condenser are bad the sparks should be yellow-red but they are blue and clean.<br /><br />I put some gas in the carbs and "Puff" it fired ones,and then "...Puff-fluff" it backfired,"fluff-fluff" again,"fluff-fluff-....fluff" again.<br />So it fired sometimes but only backwards.<br />I have no idé why....i mean she was spinning fine and began running bad and then stoped in to this.<br /><br />ohh The sparkplugs are not wet but it smell srong gasoline if i pull the plugs and turn the flywheel by hands.

Sebbie,If you have confirmed that you have good spark and you have confirmed that the carburetors are clean and clear,the only thing left is the fuel lines and a compression test.Is the pickup tube in the fuel tank clean and clear?Is tank venting properly?When you pump the primer ball does it get firm indicating that the needle valves in carb bowl are not stuck open and seating properly?

The tank and gaslines are new for the season and the gasball gets firm and the throttle-valve works perfect.But after all i throwed pure gasoline in the air intake but she only backfire.culd it be any electrics thats bad and give the sparks to late ore something ??.When this happend,engine culd´t go on full throttle she only sound like she culd´t keep up her strength then deid (not overheated).maybe the ignitionsystem has a delay ore something.I meen One Fire and Three fire backwards don´t seems normal fuel problem to me.but i dont knowe.<br /><br />Tomorrow i´m gonna do a super fuel test.

now the symtom is "backfire".<br />When i try to start her (electric start) nothing happends,but when i release the ignition-key sometimes she fire ones but backwards.why???

Have you checked the ignition timing and distributor points? Also spark plug gap - I had a two cycle that wouldn't fire fully a few days ago and it was just that the gap was too wide.
