Evinrude V4 Prop Shaft Seals

I've got a 1980 100HP V4 Evinrude, that I am replacing the prop shaft seals on, and was lucky enough to get them out without having to pull the bearing carrier.

Do the seals go in with the lip/spring side facing the bearing, or facing the prop, or one each direction?

Do you use the triple-seal grease, 3M 847, or some other gasket sealant on the housing/outside edges of the seals, to assure a good seal between the seal and the housing?

Do you lube the rubber lips before installing, or install them "dry"?

Okay; I found a comment on the Internet about prop shaft seals, and although not specific to the Evinrude motor, it mentions that the seals go in back-to-back, so one seals against pressure (inner seal next to bearing), and one seals against vacuum (the lip/spring-side faces the prop).

This makes sense, but I already installed both seals, with BOTH lips/spring-sides facing the bearing. Am I gonna have to pull the outer and reverse it? I used gasket sealant on the outer edge so it might be a pain to remove it now. Will the current setup be okay?

You might get by with it but the inner seal lip faces in (to keep oil in) and the outer seal lip faces out ( to keep water out ). Good Luck.
