Re: Evinrude VRO 40 HP starting procedure
You don't need an owners manual. The lever on top of the control box is a fast idle lever. Obviously you can't fast idle the engine for warm up with the regular throttle/shift lever because it would be in gear. Here's the starting procedure:
COLD START:
1) Squeeze the primer bulb in the fuel line until firm.
2) With the throttle/shift lever in neutral, raise the fast idle lever about 1/3 of its travel.
3) Turn the key to RUN (not start).
4) Push in on the key to activate the primer solenoid and hold it for a count of 8 - 10.
5) Turn the key to START.
6) When the engine fires let it fast idle for a bit then lower the fast idle lever a bit.
7) The engine may want to die so be prepared to push in the key momentarily to give it another shot of gas. You may need to do this a couple of times so be ready.
8) Lower the fast idle lever.
9) Go boating.
HOT START:
1) Raise the fast idle slightly.
2) Turn the key to START.
3) Lower the fast idle lever and go boating.
4) In some situations a little bump of the key to give the engine a little gas may be necessary. It all depends on how long the engine had been shut off.
