Water pump replacement.

I have an Evinrude 55HP.
Model 55673E
Ser. # E0003825

I was told, as there was no water coming out of the exhaust port, while it was running, I needed to replace the water pump. I was told to unbolt the lower portion of the motor (prop section) and it would pull off with a long shaft and I would be able to change the water pump.
I have unbolted it and it dropped down about an inch but it will not come off any further. Why?

The only thing that I can see that is holding it is the long shaft that comes out of the bottom of the engine. It looks like it is splined at the top and should slid out.

Please help me, the bass are jumping in TN and my boat is on blocks.
Pawn

you'll have to remove the shift linkage bolt located under lower carb area.Kind of a bugger to get to but not too bad.its a shouldered bolt pin .Would lift lower unit back in place with two bolts started to remove strain from shift rod.

Ob,

Thanks, that did it!
Piece of cake, after I removed the starter. I figured it was either that or remove 3 of my fingers to be able to get my hand in there.
Pawn

Hooty,

Youneedtolocatethespacebar! It’s the long one at the center/bottom of your key board. The one without any picture. (G)
And the manual is on the way, thanks.
Pawn
