Try shooting a bit of premix down the carbs...it should pop if you have spark!

You may want to pull the plugs to see if they are wet...flooding!

Vent on tank open?

You set the idle on muffs, with no back pressure and no load.

Recheck your L&S procedure. Mine always said to do it with the leg in water and to set the idle in gear.

Oh, and Don't shout. If you didn't want help you wouldn't be here

I Agree with JB

Your idle/cables/linkage needs to be redone in water.

whenever I finish a boat/engine, I always take it to the lake for a test launch, where I float for 30 minuets adjusting everything.

Set your idle on the muffs at about 1200 RPM then take it to the water. You can leave it on the trailer so you wont need to worry about stalling out and getting stuck. Fire it up, warm it up and put it in forward gear. Should show around 700 RPM. If not, make the adjustment accordingly.

What's your starting procedure? List it step by step. Many folks twist the key and grind away until something happens. That's not a starting procedure. It's a battery run-down procedure.

OK this my procedure:

1. throw the boat in the water
2. Lower the engine in the water
3. pump fuel into the carbs
4. during ignition I push the key in so that the choke solenoid may inject fuel.
5. Try and start the engine in Neutral.
6. If the engine doesn't start in neutral I open the lever to WOT positon, and let it turn on allowing the motor to heat up and slowly lowering the lever to neutral.

This only happen once after that no matter what I did the engine would not start at moments it sounded like it would start but would die down.

The funny thing is when i hook up muffs to it, it starts up.

Re: Evinrude Won't start in water!!!!!! HELP PLEASE!

You had better fix the control lever because you should not be able to start the engine with the lever pushed full open -- and incidentally in gear. But then you may be talking about the"Fast Idle" lever which has nothing whatsoever to do with "Neutral". It is merely like a manual throttle on an old car. Next, never run an engine wide open throttle with no load unless you happen to like watching an engine destroy itself because it is running away and can't be shut off -- even with the key.

Now then here is the "correct" procedure (it doesn't matter if the boat is in the water or not as long as the engine has cooling water available).

1) Squeeze the primer bulb until firm. If it doesn't firm up, fix the problem.
2) Raise the fast idle lever about 1/3. If you don't know about this lever, it is the flat lever at the very top of the control box.
3) Turn the key to the RUN (not START) position.
4) Push in on the key for a count of eight to ten.
5) Release the key and turn it to START.
If the engine doesn't immediately start, push in the key until it does.
6) When the engine starts let it fast idle but for heavens sake not at wide open, and then gradually lower the fast idle lever. If the engine tends to want to die during warm up, don't rev it, simply push in on the key momentarily but don't wait until it dies.

If the engine dies with the lever all the way down, fix the problem which is likely a bad link&sync job or idle speed adjustment.

Did you take the cowling off in the water to see if it would crank? If it does you probably have an exhaust leak.
