1. My old 1986 Evinrude 40 VRO has XD30 in the oil tank since that has been my choice in oil for several years.
2. I just found out that XD50 is very little more money and I'm going to start using the XD50.

3. The point of the post: Should I just start using the XD50 when I next need to add oil to the tank. (My thinking is yes)
Do I need to empty the oil tank of XD30 before making the switch? I realize I will be running a synthetic blend, about 20% XD30, 80% XD50 for a while, but that doesn't seem like that would be a bad thing.

The general concensus is going to be to run your tank down as far as you are comfortable with the XD-30 then top the tank off with XD-50. I think you will be pleased with the decrease in smoke with the XD-50. It is a good oil.

They are both TCW-3 oils and as part of that certification, they have to be compatable with each other.

Mixing those 2 oils will be no problem.
