I have a 1989 Evinrude 200XP that I bought used. It's a very strong engine and runs great. I'd like to know how the XP models differ from non-XP models.

I've read the OEM and Clymers manuals, and I've searched this site. The most I've been able to gather is that the XPs have different carb jets. Any additional info would be appreciated.

Welcome to the boards.

We have a 150xp and it hauls arse. I know XP is good, whatever it means.

With the loopers, the main difference was styling. The heads are different but only slightly. The carbs and throttle bodys were slightly different on some models, that would explain the jetting difference. The rev limiter may be set higher on the XP/GT's.

Dont lug it and it'll be a great motor! Good luck!

Extry Power. Lots of differences on the cross flow, not sure on the looper. All V6 GTs and XPs had 35 amp charging system.

Thanks for the info, everyone. This engine definitely seems to have unusual power for its horsepower rating. I'm very pleased with it.
