Carbs cleaned, fuel pumps changed, gas tank cleaned, filters new.

So I am setting the carbs to get the best idle. I Set it to the manuals 1 1/4 turn out. It starts Idles and bogs sometimes and dies. If I turn the mix screw out about 1 and half / 2 more turns it idles alot more stable. Is this ok?

Also some times I get a small surge. I have re synced the carbs, but when I adjust the idle cam it doesn't respond like SBC's I am used to working on. Is it nornal to have to crank this thing over 1 full turn to get 50 or so rpms?

The manual says Port side 1 5/8 out. Starboard 3/4 out. (Teikei carbs are both 1 1/2 out)
