Hi
I have a 1999 Johnson 70hp 3 cylinder with oil injection. (approx 40hours use) The oil consumption has incrased dramatically and the engine naturally now smokes very heavily. Is there a way to recalibrate the pump back to 50:1 or is it buy a new pump or go back to pre-mix?

All suggestions greatfully recieved

Terence

Last visit to my friendly neighborhood Bote Fixer I viewed three (3) '80s OMC triple loopers that were trash because of oil injection failures (or failures by users who lied).

Many will disagree, but I would go with premix.

Good luck. :)

Check for fuel restriction or air leaks in fuel system to tank. While I was sorting out the oil system, I would prop to 6000 rpms, link/sync and verify wide open throttle timing. I also see more of the Atwood 6 gal plastic fuel tanks that have a pickup tube too small for this engine, pickup tube should be 1/2 inch. If the pump is bad and you want to contuine use of the VRO I would send the pump to DFI for a rebuild.

Hi
Thank you all for your replies/tips. I checked the fuel system last night and the primer bulb was putting a restriction in the fuel flow. I changed the buld and the problem of excessive smoking was cured.

Regards Terence
