i have a set of twin 1979 700 chysler skiers...i want to remove the 2 of them and replace them with a johnson 1985 140 hp..single engine...my worry is the weight seeing how the 2 chryslers bring down the back of the boat. to wear the water flows in at launch...the boat is a 1974 20ft chrsler..wanting to lighten up the rear end a bit..but keep the same hp...if anyone has any idea as to the difference in weight..id appreciate it..?

270 pounds EACH on the Chryslers.
315 pounds for the Johnson

So you would be losing 225 pounds.

Shame to put anything other than a Chrysler on that boat. Ever think about two Chrysler twin carb 65s? They are much lighter than the 70s and even though they are two cylinder engines, they perform much better. Might need to hunt a little to find a pair, but the time would be worth it.

Or how about a Chrysler 140? They are around so you should be able to find a decent used one.

Lacking that, How about a Force ---Ugh! ugly---150?

All of these have the advantage of using the same controls too.
