Had a beautiful day in Wisconsin today, actually warm out (mid 70's) with calm winds. Launched the boat, enjoying the day, and notice quite a bit of black smoke billowing from what could be the launch area. After a while, we head back so my little one can get home and take a nap, and this is what we discovered:

Not a good day for someone! Apparently flames shot out when he tried to start it up, and even though the attendants brought out fire extinguishers it was not enough. That guy did not have a good labor day weekend, but at least no one was seriously hurt, just a few minor burns. I was wondering why a 1,150 acre lake only had about 10 boats on it on Sunday of labor day weekend. It's the only public launch on the lake, so it was closed for over 2 hours.

is it an outboard? i can't really tell from the pics. i know i worry about fumes under the cover on our I/O so i have the wife turn on the blower a few minutes before i'm done fishing a spot.

It was an I/O, not sure if it was fumes from not using the blower or if he had a fuel leak. I do know that if he wants to get on the water again it will be in afriend's boat or a different one!

Wonder why they are loading the boat on a flatbed???

It appears as if the guy had already launched when the fire occurred... couldn't he have just put the boat back on his own trailer?

If no one was seriously hurt, it seems strange the police would take the boat away...

But all in all, sorry for the bad day for the dude... I had a boat catch on fire once, its no fun!

Sure ruined one families day. Glad no serious injury.

The tow truck is probably there because of the "few minor burns".

If I thought my insurance co. would write it off, I'd probably want it hauled away on a flat bed too... then maybe I'd get to keep the trailer.
