I had taken the power head off the 90 ocean pro I have..

it had the knock..but otherwise ran really good.

looking over whats left of the motor on the stand i figured id try and take the inner exhaust housing out...and facilitate a nice paint job

it is really stuck, so i went onto looking around inside the openings for a missing bolt that is keeping it on..and I discover two seemingly totally blocked passages..and the other one very clogged...with oily crud and baked in crud..

here is a diagram:

I AM REFERING TO part# 18

there are two siamesed openings and in front of them is a big opening... for exhaust that snakes its way down into hidden passages before it empties into a big open area to fall straight down

I am wondering it these blockages could or did contribute to engine problems and failures

I am chipping away and it isnt coming out easy... at all....

also is it JUST the bolts from above that are holding it on ...besides the gasket glue????

there are no bolts from under neath...right?

thanks

Just the top bolts are holding it on. You absolutely need to get that carbon and crud out out there. That stuff will destroy the motor. When you get it all back together, run some Sea Foam mixed with you gas. It will help break up residual carbon deposits both inside and outside the powerhead.
