Hello All,

Just wanted to know if I had to remove the entire outdrive to put A exhaust bellow on I just looked at it and it looks like I can reach all the screws to take the old one off and also is there a way to do it without the bellow tool. It is an Alpha one outdrive on an mercruiser 4.7L

Thank you

Re: Exhaust Bellow

Why are you replacing the exhaust bellows? The reason I ask is because the drive bellows is the more important issue - and if the exhaust bellows is bad, then the drive bellows may not be far behind. Plus - if you are planning on putting on a brand new exhaust bellows, it will be nearly impossible to simply reach up and put it on without an expander tool of some sort. It looks much easier than it is!

The exhaust bellow has a split directly down the middle of it i didnt see anything wrong with the other bellows.

Re: Exhaust Bellow

It will work fine with a split. Personally, I would leave it alone till other maintenance needs to be done. Having said that - it sounds like you are reluctant to pull the drive. Have you ever pulled it? It isn't difficult and should be done from time to time to check and / or replace various items.

I am in process of swapping all of my bellows. It really is not that difficult to pull drive out, thought it would be harder then it actually was.

Re: Exhaust Bellow

Mine is only two years old and it has a slice down the middle of it too, isn't that strange? I get a little water in the bilge, but other than that its no big deal. Come on you guys, pull the dang outdrive. There is so much information in here about how to do basic maintenance, if you can turn a wrench you can pull the outdrive. You have to at least inspect your drive shaft and grease your gimble bearing every year.

If you're getting water in the bilge - it isn't because of the split in your exhaust bellows. It would be a good idea to find out where your water is coming from.

Can't you grease the gimble without pulling the drive? Many Merc outdrives have a zirk on the outdrive housing, isn't that what its for?
