I have read that when replacing exhaust bellows you should use glue or cement along with the clamps. When I am ordering a new bellows I don't see where they come with any type glue/cement. So does this mean the parts manufacturer is not requiring it. I did'nt even see where it could be purchased separately. Thanks

You can buy bellows adhesive from any marine supplier. You will not find a specific adhesive for EXHAUST bellows, just bellows adhesive. For what it is worth - 3M Weatherstrip adhesive is the same thing.

I really like te exhaust tube a LOT better, and sealing isn't a big deal on either that or the exhaust bellows. use the merc bellows adhesive for the drive shaft bellows... somoe of the nastiest goo you'll every have all over you (if you're not careful), but it does it's job well...

If it's an Alpha I Gen II, you don't want any bellows adheisive on the exhaust bellows, or the bellows WILL pull off when the drive is tilted up.
Get all the oil, grease, or anything else off the bellhousing and transom shield section where the bellows goes and clean it with acetone or other solvent without any oil in it. Then get some Merc Power Tuner and spay on the bellows and section you are putting it on and tighten the clamp. When the power tune evaporates it will be like the bellows is glued on only better.

Re: exhaust bellows cement

WOW, thanks for all the great help. I had one more question concerning exhaust tube vs. exhaust bellows. Is an exhaust tube the one that only clamps on to the transom end, and is slightly larger on the lower unit end. If so what would be the difference between it and a bellows that has cracks on the ribs from the outdrive being stored in the up position, like the previous owner did to mine. It seems like they both leak making for a loader exhaust, which is what I am trying to correct. Thank You Again

Sound is about the only difference. I also don't like the tube if one beaches the boat with the drive up. Waves can push water right up the exhaust, nothing there to stop it.
