OK, finally got engine and outdrive in after spending $600.00. Now I have an exhaust leak right at the end of the 2 y pipes going into the out drive. The boat mechanic says the outdrive and engine have to be removed to check for leaks and possibly tighten the 2 top bolts at the flange, on the center section where the 2 exhaust ducts connect before heading out of the boat. anybody got a better fix than re-removing the engine and outdrive? Thanks

If you can get a wrench on the bolts or nuts, try snugging them down. If you can't reach them they you have to pull the outrdive and engine. If you can snug them down and you still have a leak, the Y pipe might have taken a hit when first removing or installing the engine and might be cracked.

I bought a cherry picker (engine hoist) about 10 years ago and have never regretted it. Have used it for many projects not just engines. It's a handy thing to have, and you can probably find one for $150-200. Mine has paid for itself at least 20X over in what I would have paid in shop labor for the projects I've used it in.
