exhaust flapper

Need some help, Have a 3.0 OMC that I am replacing the head gasket in for a friend. When I pulled the head I noticed the exhaust flapper didnt look right to me, never replaced one but this one looks upside down to me. The high side is up . I s this correct? He said he replaced it and now it dosnt have power.

that would do it.. lol

you should be able to push it down and open the same way exhaust would and verify the old one isn't jammed down the pipe or in the outdrive clogging things up.

I just replace mine for a 2.3l and the hinge side faces up looking down into tube, I had to file mine a little to get it moving without obstruction. If you stop abruptly stop the water should ride up exhaust and hit flat part of flapper and close it. I think mine was slight beveled too, not sure if you can mount it the other way logistically?
