Is there any special trick to replacing the exhaust manifold to cylinder head gaskets on the port side? I can drain the water and remove the hoses. Should I take the riser off also? Do I need to prepare for any suprises? I can hear an exhaust leak on that side near the back two cylinders. Is there anywhere else the leak could be coming from? There is no water only the sound.

Re: Exhaust Gasket

you either remove the manifold with the riser if you undo the exaust connectors or remove the riser, then the manifold.
to reinstall the manifold , get some longer bolts or just start the 2 end ones first by a few threads .
Heres the trick for the gasket. you pull the manifold back slightly, install the gasket over the 2 end bolts, over not thru
because you notched the 2 ends of the gasket to fit over the end bolts. install center 2 bolts, torque to spec.
that part will be answered when you remove the manifold, might be cracked or erroded away causing an exaust leak.

my method or repair depends on the engine and assorted accessories. sometimes you can remove the dumps first and sometimes you have to remove the riser to remove the dumps.every boat is slightly different.

Re: Exhaust Gasket

Well I had to remove the riser to get the manifold off. It actually made it easier anyway because I have limited space and together they are very heavy. Everything was very easy to do.
