Exhaust leak from engine cowl Johnson 4.5HP

I have a 1980 Johnson model J5RCSS and it runs very good. But I have something leaking from the bottom of the engine cowl. A dark brown/black oily.

Can it be the engine exhaust cover plate gasket leaking? It comes from arround there.

it sure could. surprised it will run with cover on.
