I have a 1989 4.3 OMC/V-6 Cobra with 1 piece exhaust manifolds. Those of you that have experienced with these know how hard these are to find and how expensive they are when you do, not to mention they are too heavy and a pain in the butt to deal with. My question is, do I have to use these? If the mercruiser uses the same GM v-6 block, then will the mercruiser manifold bolt up to it? If all I need to do is modify the output side of it to fit my OMC's y-pipe using some stainless tubing and exhaust bellows, then why not use it? I would like to use the aluminum 2 piece exhaust to save weight. If these are too much trouble, does anyone know of any aftermarket exhaust systems that will work without costing more than the boat is worth??

Check with GLM if theirs is in stock now. They were supposed to have replacements available at the end of August.

av8tor - We are in the same boat - HA!

Anyway, I am in the market for the 1 piece manifold as well. Search for "water in plugs" and you should find my post regarding manifolds. You will find a link to a site that may have the manifolds in stock. Otherwise, check out this post for more information to include a link to the conversion kit. If you convert, let me know how it goes and I'll do the same.

http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=24;t=013409#000000

A place called Sea Way Marine on the west coast (Washington State) is selling a conversion kit for this.
www.sea-way.com
you can give them a call if you need em soon.
I replace my one pieces 2 years ago and the OE ones (14 years old then!) were still good, but I didn't know how long they were used in salt water so I didn't want to take a chance. I'll use these 2 more seasons and them pull em off to check em, and replace if needed.
I happen to like this design, there is no riser to manifold joint to leak or cause corrosion between the 2 parts. I was able to get a spare set from doug russel in Mass last winter.

Re: Exhaust MAnifold Exchange

Just got the last of my stuff to upgrade my GM350 from one piece Camelback Barrs, (original Volvo Penta AQ255A) to center rise. Did my homework on this. Manifolds, risers, gaskets and bolt kits, and the 80 degree elbows and hose, off of this gentlemen who sells manifolds and stuff on ebay. And they are Mercruiser/OMC manifolds. We did emails and pictures, and told me what I need. And all came with Sierra parts numbers on the boxes. Super cheap shipping, no tax, and the whole sha-bang for under $550. Email fredwarner1@hotmail.com and tell he Robby sent ya. Be specific on what ya have, and what you want to do. Once you get sent up on centerise, you will see just why the old one piece aren't made anymore.
