Exhaust Manifold ""Flappers""...

I have a PCM 350 motor in an older Mastercraft ski boat. I read another post about overheating problems and it sparked my curiosity....long story, he had rust buildup in the exhaust manifold. I had noticed when tuning my motor that the left side exhaust manifold was hotter than the right side. The right felt cool, but the left was definitely much warmer.

I ran to the back and looked down at the exhaust coming out and the "hot" side wasn't coming out as much as the right side. When I was overhauling the motor last winter, I did notice excessive rusting in the front intake manifold and certainly the thermostat neck. I scraped what I could but thought that if I am seeing it there, it must be everywhere!!

Now back to the flappers... I've never heard of such a thing and was wondering if my 1987 chevy 350cid/PCM exhaust manifolds, have flappers in the exhaust? How do I get at them? Are they designed to prevent water backflow?

It seems like my slight heating diagnosis, is due to the 'rusty blues'. Please advise,

The Mastercraft should just have flappers on the outside rear of the boat where the exhaust comes out.

Ayuh,... The Flappers or Shutters are always Downstream of the Risers...
Not In the manifolds...

So according to your suggestion, the 'flappers' are just the rubber "flaps" on the end of the exhaust pipe thru the hull? If so how can I explain the flow of water being more in one pipe than the other(hot/cold)? Sorry, I'm kind of new at this direct drive setup...

It sounds like a clogged manifold to me ?

Do you think it is something that I can get from the topside, with a shop vac, without having to yank the whole thing off?
