Hello group,

I have been informed by others on this forum that my one piece exhaust manifolds should be replaced before they ruin my motor. It is a 2000 4.3L v6 s# L617639. looking for input about the aftermarket vs oem. sounds like I should stay away from GLM. I found out that Merc stuff is made in Mexico, I like to spend my cash on made in the USA when ever I can. It looks to me that Barr is made here, is Barr good stuff? What about Osco or HGE? looking for quality first and cost second. I have no problem buying Merc if the quality is superior, I appreciate everyone's input.

Thanks'
Rich.

Re: Exhaust manifolds

I myself have had no problems with glm. I replaced my manifolds with glm aftermarkets without a hitch. One was a 5.7 the other was twin 3.0's. I also had heard bad things about them, but how many of those had actually installed them? Just my two cents. Maybe I was one of the "lucky ones".

Re: Exhaust manifolds

I have always found that the OEM parts are almost always just made with a better quality. I've seen and installed a bunch. Barr makes good stuff but I have yet to see any heavier or better castings then the Merc ones. They may be made in Mexico but the money comes back here. If you plan to keep the boat forever go OEM, if you just need them for a couple of years then you go after market. Your boat won't know the difference. Also, merc changed the design on the new ones eliminating the problem with the old style. I don't know about the other brands. :noidea:

Re: Exhaust manifolds

Preference by Brand...

1. OEM (Mercury Marine)
2. Osco or Barrs
3. Sierra
10. GLM (if you absolutely must )
