Exhaust protector valve

I have a 1972 Mercruiser 120 ser# 3214940 The oem exhaust shutter was riveted in the exhaust tube and came apart. This parts has gone obsolete. The one they show as a replacement

is considerably different. Where and how would you install this one?

I just purchased an OEM part no. 45586 that worked.

Dealer didn't mention that it was NLA.

I didn't remove the tube.

I used a dremel to grind off the rivets on one of the 2 clips that hold the flapper in. That allowed me to remove the old flapper.

I used the clip that was left there with one of the new clips.
It makes sense once you remove the flapper.

I then used stainless 10-32 machine screws to attach the new one.

Thanks for the info Marc. I found the part at Canadian Marine parts.com at a better price than out of the US. I will have at her when they arrive.

I really like it, it only sips the fuel and will do anything I want. Pull a tube cruise around and fishing. I am still trying to find the right prop though and closing in on it.
