I'm running a 92 5.7 (572) volvo penta DP there are two little small rubber elbows at the bottom of the transom right bellow the transom plate the dealer told me they are exhaust outlets, or release there is exhaust mix with worm water coming out there when the engine is running I decided to change one of them it need it to be change, is hard to get them in there and easy to came of as it already happens first trip to the lake its got to be a way to install them so that they don't come of again does any body knows how to replace this small rubber elbows?

They have a dual purpose. They are there to direct the idle exhaust to the outside of the drive, and the square shoulder is the seal between the exhaust Y and the transom shield. The ONLY way to install them is to remove the engine, drive exhaust bellows, and finally the exhaust Y. Once the Y is removed, the exhaust relief hoses are installed in the groove. When the Y is reinstalled, the square shoulder is squeezed preventing leakes between the Y and the transom sheild.

Re: EXHAUST RELEaSE ON A VOLVO DRIVE

Thank you I ask every body and no one new the answer to this I even look in my service manual and there is no mention, do you know if is ok to run it like that or will it cost any damage to the transom, I assume that if I don’t replace them water will find the way in between the transom, and the transom shield causing some kind of damage to the transom, and is there any way to do this without taking that engine out, I ask the marina guy before I took the old one out and he said that it just plugs in there ( wrong) but now I got one of this things missing back there

It won't damage the drive, about the only problem you will have now is water leaking into the boat. It shouldn't leak into the transom.

will the water then leak in to the bilge area or the exhaust system?<br /> If this is conected to the y is not going to leak in the boat is it?

It will leak into the boat between the Y and the transom shield.
