Hi guys;

Well today I decided to try to find those ellusive exhaust shutters. I drained the block and took the clamps off the rubber closest to the riser, on the other side of that boot and also at the top of that oval boot after the elbow. I also took the 4 bolts off the riser. Nothing wants to move enough to remove anything . I don't want to break anything, so I thought I would come and ask you guys first.
On another note, I believe Jay (friscoboater) put a Corsa Exhaust on his boat which is similar to mine. Any tips on how to order or contact these people before I reassemble the exhaust might save me some time. I think I will be ordering a side Captain's Call after Christmas. Keeping my fingers crossed for a big tax return.
I would like to get this exhaust apart today, so any advise or tips would be helpfull.
I'm also wondering if I need to remove those risers as maintenance or leave well enough alone.
I have included some pictures
The boat in question is in my signature.

Thanks......Ken

Ayuh,... Get yerself, or build yerself a Hose Pick....
Work it under the rubber of the couplers to break it free from the castings...
Then slide the lower coupler Down, 'n the upper coupler Forward...
That should allow ya to pull the elbow....
The shutters are at the Top of the Y-pipe, just below the lower coupler...

The risers are probably rust siezed, 'n will need abit of beating to get 'em loose...

Thanks for your quick response;

I have the couplers loose, but the upper coupler is right against the riser. The lower I should be able to slide down, so that might give me the wiggle room I need. How would I "beat" on them. Drive a wedge between the manifold and riser or hit the riser itself? Just don't want to break anything.
Is it necessary to remove the risers and check them or leave them alone?

Ayuh,.... I boat in Sweetwater,...
Salt, maybe once every couple of years, at a couple hours at a time...
I don't pull my risers, Just to look 'em over...
In sweetwater, cast iron lasts darn near Forever...

If ya wanta Pull 'em,...
Usually a couple of wacks with a block of hardwood is more than enough...
It's only held by the gasket/ rust seal...

The Elbows take abit of wrestling to get out, 'n put back in...
The Hose Pick is really handy for the task...

Another Trick I picked up from Don,....
Mercury Quicksilver Power Tune, makes rubber parts, really, Really slippery for a few seconds....;)

'course, if ya pull the risers, it's a moot point, as you'll have wiggle room....

It looks like you have the bolts to the exhaust already out.Just pop with a plastic or leather malet to look inside for rust and other problems.A little PM goes a long way,don;t ask how I know.Ouuuuch ! If the boats been in salt water you will see rust,determine how bad but it is always better to be safe better than sorry.Replace shutters,elbows and manifolds.

Hi Guys;
Well, I seem to have found the exhaust shutters. As far as I can tell they seem to be inplace and not damaged. The risers seem to be ok as well, except for the blocked passages. I haven't cleaned them yet, as I'm not sure wether those passages are suppossed to be that way as they are exactly the same on both. Well here is a few pictures of what I found.

Upon looking at those photos more carefully, has the coating worn off the top of those shutters. I'm thinkin those holes are not suppossed to be there

Ayuh,... The shutters are Supposed to have rubber insulating 'em from banging on the pipes.....
Those need replacing...

Dig the gaskets off the risers to better see what's there...

Gaskets are off, I think they look pretty good, but what do I know. There is some rust but the passages are wide open.
Is there a trick to getting those shutter out of that Y pipe?

Re: Exhaust shutter hunting (with pictures)

just curious...do you boat in saltwater? and how long have those risers been on the boat?

If you take off the rubber coupler, you will see how the shutters are removed.

Ayuh,... Like Tony said, slip the coupler off, 'n you'll see the pins holdin' the shutters in....

The risers,... The 1 on the left appears to be eroding on the righthand side of the inner gasket surface....
It's the inner gasket surface that goes to 'ell on ya, no longer holdin' the gasket in-place...

I boat in fresh water. I wouldn't need to replace those yet, would I?

Re: Exhaust shutter hunting (with pictures)

Ayuh,... I wouldn't think so...
But,...
I'd drag a flat file across 'em to knock down the highs, 'n to see the lows, in the gasket surfaces...

Re: Exhaust shutter hunting (with pictures)

Thanks Bond-o, you've been a big help. I've been searching all over the net for replacement for those shutters and I can't find anything that looks like the ones that are currently in the Y pipe. Did they upgrade or change them?

Well that had to be the easiest part retrieval ever. Here is a picture of the shutter with the part number right on it. How about that!
