Exhaust Shutter

I purchased one yesterday for my 87 3.0L inline 4 / Alpha One....Where does it go?...I heard below the exhaust riser on top of the exhaust pipe..I tried to send pics but they are too large (even in VGA mode)..Give me a break!...Is the riser the curved piece of exhaust going into top of block?,,I assuming location would be below riser(below rubber sleeve with 4 clamps)which would be the top of exhaust..BUT,,,there is another rubber sleeve with clamps below that point...which rubber sleeve/clamps do I remove?....Also. which way does the new water shutter go in?...It has metal bar in middle of it and both sides swing/flexible..one side is corregated and the other is smooth (with a single tab) for attaching to something..I found half of my old shutter in my lower unit I removed to change out pump/impeller..I hoping the other half is still in exhaust pipe somewhere???.Thanks for any info...Pete

I just replaced mine on my 87 3.0l. it is very easy, You have the big curved piece coming off of the manifold that goes to the rubber bellow, then there is another metal piece that goes to another bellow, remove the middle metal piece between the two bellows and then remove the lower bellow and look down into the pipe, it is right at the top of the bottom metal pipe that i think is a apart of the transom assembly, make sure you replace the two rubber ends that go onto the flapper when you are replacing it.
