I have 1992 454 mercruiser's with fresh water cooling. The engines have 1200 hours on them. I have owned the boat for three years and have done routine maintenance on them every 50 hours. All manifolds and elbows were also replaced last winter.
As long as I can remember I have always had a considerable amount of steam coming from my exhaust. The exhaust exits just above the water line, I have good water flow and neither engine runs higher than 170, my starboard engine actually runs at 160. The exhaust has no smell of antifreeze burning and only shows up when the engine is under load. Within 30 seconds of coming off plane the steam is very faintly there. I know it is steam because it dissapates quickly and seems never to really get into the air, stays pretty close to the water level behind the boat.
Engines start great, iddle and run great. No signs of missing or anything else. Oil is clean (no water), do I have any reason to believe that the head gasket is blown? What causes the steam?
