Exhuast Shutters in 888 Merc.

Hello all!<br /><br />I have read a few posts regarding exhaust shutters in the 888 Mercruiser stern drives, and most indicate that they are in the base of the Y-Pipe. I was wondering if anyone had an exploded parts view of the Y-Pipe with the exhaust shutters showing their particular location? <br /><br />Secondly, is there anything I would notice by looking at the base of the Y-pipe to indicate they are there without taking the Y-pipe off?<br /><br />Thanks in advance!<br />Keith

<br />The Shutters are #30.........<br />The pic is deceiving,... The T fitting bolts directly to the transom assembley,+ the 2 downpipes go in either side,.....<br />There'll be a Shutter on Each side.....<br /><br />Looking Down from the top,..... You Won't see them...........<br /><br />Looking In thru the Gimbel,...... You Shouldn't see them..............<br /><br />I think, even with the 3 piece Y pipe,......<br />You'd probably Not want to try to take it Off,..... Unless the motor was already Out........

I don't think you can tell visually if they are there without pulling the Y pipe, unless you could pull the drive and gently prod with a piece of wire to see if it gets stopped?

Yup, just like that, except there was just the metal plate from one and the other was burned to a crisp.<br /><br />Made me wonder how the previous owner was running it.
