Cant run CAD on a tablet. Then again, high end graphics cards in laptops dont live long either.

staying with my over-clocked water cooled PC for work.

use the wife's ipad for non-technical browsing.

Hate touchpads myself for any significant typing

Touch pads, for most things are a pain in the rear, I only use it when I need to send an email, I even have an add on keyboard for my second tablet and it is to small to really be comfortable to work with.

And that is my same comment with the surface. I've got the Type keyboard (clicky real button one) but the keyboard is too small for me to type very fast. I've become accustomed to the huge keyboard on my E6520 and even with taht usually have a full MS ergonomic keyboard plugged into it.

I bought an Acer netbook for use when traveling. It's either a 10 or 11" screen, I don't remember. Brand new it was $175 a couple years ago. I upgraded the RAM to 2GB and it has 2 USB ports also. It runs MS Office with no problems. It takes a bit to get used to the small keyboard but it also runs Dragonspeak 11.5 professional voice software pretty well (It says it's running a limited version but I haven't missed whatever it isn't running.

Laptops are bad for the elbows, wrists and hands, but tablets are much much worse if you're going to spend any time on them.

I see people that buy bluetooth keyboards for tablets to try to force them to do what they are not. At that point, why not use a laptop?

Basically, it's like using a hammer as a screwdriver. It may work, but it isn't the proper tool.
