hi,

I have been offered a t&t unit for my 1990 60 hp johnson so long as i can find a motor for it and get it running.

The only thing is,

I have never had t & t and don't know how it works from an engineering point. As far as i see, it's electric motor draws fluid from the resevoir on the unit to raise the hydraulic ram..
how are the 2 trims pins powered? and how do you wire up a switch to the motor and a gauge as well??

How does the motor when bolted in place pump the fluid??

If someone can give me a detailed explanation or link it would be great thanks...

Re: Explain tilt and trim operation

You pretty much have it, an electric motor pumps fluid in or out of the rams raising or lowering the engine.

You need a double throw switch that reverses polarity on the motor preferably spring loaded, as to the gauge you woud need to have something on the tt unit that reads the ange but if that is htere it is just 2 wires and the farther the trim is up the more voltage is going through the gauge and the higher it reads.

I have a tt on my boat and never ever look at the gauge, you just run it by feel.

Hope that heps abit.

Re: Explain tilt and trim operation

I have it on my new to me boat, with a 60hp Evinrude, and find it handy to get up on plane faster. I start with the motor in its lowest setting and then gradually level it out as I power onto plane. I also have been enjoying the ability to tilt up a bit when in shallows.

Good luck with yours.

PS I am not overly mechanically inclined, but it sounds like our motors are similar. If you want pictures let me know.

Haley,

if you wouldn't mind sending some pics please, i just want to see how it fits into the transom bracket and how the wiring to motor/switch is done .

thanks
