Hi guys I'm back! :D

I'm just about to (hopefully) upgrade to a bigger RIB.
The outboard prices here in the UK are horrendous so I'm looking at the idea of importing a 2nd hand 90-115hp 21" shaft motor that's a current model here from your side of the pond. (must weigh less than 370lbs)

Anyone know how I go about it?

PM's suggesting good dealers to buy from would be appreciated too-unless Iboats has started exporting used motors then asking that shouldn't be stepping on their toes (Iboats are welcome to quote me if they like-I have mony burning holes in my pocket :D )

Re: Exporting outboards to England

I'm no expert on this topic by any means but since I nearly ended up in jail over an import screw up involving some equipment I was bringing back from Australia, I do have a little experience. I think you need to deal with an import/export agent in the UK and you would find those in any major city by looking in the commercial listings in the phone book, on-line, or if you know someone that works in that capacity at major corporation they would be able to advise you. As for exporting things from the US, you should be able to Google U.S. Import/Export rules or similar phrases to see what's required. I'm just guessing but I would expect the exporting company prepares documentation in accordance with U.S. requirements and that paperwork accompanies the product to the importer in the U.K. Once cleared and any duties paid, the product continues on its way to you. I once "gave" a visiting friend from Sweden some American Car diesel engine parts. All I needed to do was provide a letter indicating that these parts were a gift and that no money exchanged hands. But that was Sweden!

i done one export to Germany, the U.S. ends is easy, just fill out some customs forms, your end is where it gets tricky with your customs and tariffs. i ship a $20.00 old camera to Germany 3 LBS. shipping was $30.00 US.
