Just received a letter from Merc the other day with various prices for various amounts of coverage on my soon to be out of warranty 90H/P Merc 4 stroke.

1yr was $400 and change all the way up to 4yrs I believe for $1100 and change?
How many have purchased it and regretted it and how many were glad they did?
I have had zero problems with it so far, it starts very easily, runs awesome, sips gas and uses zero oil, my gut is saying naw, don't bother but my heart is saying something else.
I know it boils down to a personal decision but has anyone had or heard of troubles with this motor? I haven't but then again I haven't been on here in quite some time either. Thanks................Irv964

Re: Extended warranty/07 90 Merc 4 Stroke?

Our Merc 115 came with a 3-year warranty. Buying when we did added another 2 years at no charge, so total of 5 years.

There are lots of opinions about these extended warranties. While I'm glad we have 5 year coverage, I often wonder if it is really necessary. I doubt I would have paid for the extra coverage. Motors are built so well these days. And anything that does go wrong is usually the fault of the owner, in which case Merc would most likely deny the claim. Just my two cents worth. -Ken

Thanks Navy Jr, I just missed the extra 2 years for free when I purchased my motor, wish I had of got it but thats the way it goes.

I believe you when you say most damage is caused by the operator's but I was just curious if any known problems have arisen with these newer motors?
Judging by the responses, I take it they are pretty decent motors and problems are few and far between? That being said, I think I will keep my money and my fingers crossed that it stays together for another 4 yrs;)
