I need to replace the 9" piece of fuel line hose that connects to the main tank fitting on the wall of the motor well and the gas line water separator/filter. It's 3/8" ID SAE J1527 USCG TYPE A1 ISO 7840-A1. I went to my marina and the guy told me that I neded a TYPE B1 hose. He said B1 is for external use and A1 is for under the floor use:confused:. The A1 hose is about 3/4" OD with reinforcing thread and plastic laminate imbedded in the hose. The B1 is about 9/16" with just some thread reinforcing.

He had some A1 hose, but the OD still looked smaller than the hose I need to replace. Is he right? If he isn't, where can I get the hose I need? Thanks!!

Don't measure hose by OD, it is measured by ID. If it's 3/8" hose, that means it's 3/8" inside diameter.

I'm not sure about the A1 or B1 thing, but I wouldn't overthink it, what you have been using was A1, and it worked fine right?. Just get some 3/8" fuel hose from any marine store and replace what you have, it's not that intergral of a thing.

A1 hose is fire resistant from a direct flame for 2 1/2 minutes. That is why it is required for gasolne inboards and recommended for underfloor locations.

B1 hose in not fire resistant and can be used in outboard motor applications.
