When I add oil to my fuel I always add a little extra just to be on the safe side. My question is how much extra is too much?

Re: extra oil

When you start fouling plugs and loading up at idle then you have too much. If you run WOT you probably won't notice any difference. I mix it the same all year but I always end up with a heavier mix toward the end because I put another ounce in the ten gallon tank then it calls for.

Re: extra oil

Id suggest you should not get any problems up to double the oil. It would have been run on that during the break in period when new.

Re: extra oil

Anything over break-in(double oil) can cause problems such as loading up,fouling and even engine failure as the oil mixture gets to heavy to flow thru jets(high speed)and causes a lean condition. A little extra like 6-8 oz anit going to hurt anything.

Re: extra oil

The engineers that designed the motor are a lot higher paid than I am, and in my humble opinion they knew what they were doing. Extra oil probably won't kill it, but it is wasteful, costs more, and is more harmful to the environment. Not to mention the dirty looks you get when you fire it up at the ramp. Do whatever you want, but I suggest mixing according to the instructions and don't be trying to re-engineer it.

Re: extra oil

Mix it to what the recommended ratio is. A touch more will do no harm.
How much extra are you using ???

Not using much extra, some times, its hard to read from the jug so I will add maybe a extra ounce or two just to be sure. I need to get something easier to measure with. What do you guys use?

I use one of those cheap plastic measuring containers they sell at Wal Mart. Easy to use, accurate and nice to take with you for your next tankfull if you take it with you and screw the cap on tight. Extra ounce or 2 will not hurt on multiple gallons.
