Some backgorund... I just got an outboard for my inflatable (tohatsu 9.8 @ 81 pounds) my inflatable supports up to 200+ lbs so ill be ok there.

The questions is do you guys connect any safety line from your outboard to your inflatable in the event that it may become lose and fall into the water?

Thanks

Yes...but I chose NOT to bolt it to transom for various reasons. I've never had it loosen but I'm sure if I hit rocks the engine will come right over the engine mounting plate and transom. I'm hoping the rope will keep the prop from hitting me. Bolting would deter thieves a little longer too.

Try to fasten both motor clamps eyes at front of each other, tie a small rope through them. If both clamps eyes once screwed tight can't be facing each other, glue a pvc fabric, tire bladder to form a cushion, clamps will face & lock much better. Most boaters secure a rope to engine and forget all about screwing both clamps tight to motor mount, or perform a clamp tightness check after some boating time.

Happy Boating
