So here is the scoop. I have a '79 Johnson 35 hp that I am ready to fire up. I have done everything from new plugs to rebuilding the carb. Anyway i hook up the fuel tank and I start to send fuel to the carb. Well the after ten or twelve pumps the bulb is still not hard so I start to look for the problem and low and behold the fuel pump is bad so I ordered a rebuild kit ( from iboats) and it came in today and I rebuild the pump. And so I figured that solved the problem boy was i wrong. I hook the pump back up put the fuel to it and it is still leaking from between the filter and the pump. So my question is does anyone know where I can see an exploded view of the whole pump? I have a manual for the motor but I have no idea where it is right know since my wife cleaned house. And she can't either. So hopefully she finds it soon so I don't have to ask for exploded views anymore and leave the posting for questions I can't answer with the book.

Does that bring up the right pic of a pump? It works in my browser, but could just be from the cache.

EVINRUDE.com has schematics of most parts like this, look under parts and accesories and find the parts catalog, select model and year and it helps a lot. I really like OMC cause of service like that.

Ok well I went back out and noticed the the metal plate on the front side of the pump is a bit rusted where the gaskets sits. Is there any way to clean the plate or do I need another one. And if I do need another one where can I get just the plate?

How badly is it rusted? Why not use some Scotchbrite or fine emery to clean it up? Then try using some hytack to help it seal in that area.

Any auto parts stort. All it is is just a spray on sealer made by Permatex. Its good quality and works well.

Hi, I had the same problem and I found out that you can blow gas past the gasket if you pump the primer bulb too hard. I tightened the thumb screw a little tighter and gently pumped the bulb untill firm and wha-la ,no leak. It op checked good......Robert
