EZ Connector Trailer Light Plug

I just rewired my boat trailer and noticed when I went to take the wires out of the trailer plug that they were all corroded and the connector was rusted. I am using a 6 round, because I have a electric winch on the trailer and just use the truck battery for the winch. I found the EZ Connector's that are suppose to be water proof, but they are expensive, so I was wondering if anyone had them or if someone knew of a good waterproof 6 round that I could use. This is there website. http://www.ezconnector.com/

Re: EZ Connector Traier Light Plug

all I can offer as advise for trailer plugs, lights, etc.use silicone spray on them. on mine, I set up a seperate trailer light bar, that never hits the water, I set it in the back of the boat, secure it so it won't fly out, and it works great, never have to do anything to it but have extra bulbs, in case they burn out from use. got sick of allways messing with the lights early in {the dark am hrs} only to have them finally working by day light. fresh and salt water, jacks up the elec. so I spray 100% silicone on connectors, keeps em nice. good luck

While I dont agree with JD on the use of silicone spray, dielectric silicone is good to use when you live in a place like MI. where they use alot of salt. I use it on the plug and dont have any problems with corosion. Its good for all places to have it, just to be safe. It also keeps the water out when not using the plug.

As for that fancy plug, I only wonder what kind of cover it has for when not in use. I didnt see one in the pic's. And id have to guess that in a salt enviroment those "spring loaded" contacts may cease to be spring loaded.

There is a cover for the plug. It is a magnetic cover. You may be right about the springs and the salt not mixing. I may just have to get the old 6 plug and use some spray on it. I know it will be a lot cheaper. Thanks for the information.

Where did you get the connector? A lot of places sell connectors with the cheap, steel plated contacts in them. You can go to a trailer supplier and buy a good brass contact connector or you can go the route I did.

I bought a 7 pin connector with a heavy cable molded into the connector. Installed a water proof conduit box on the tongue. Use the box to terminate the wires between the connector and the trailer wiring. Used cable grips to seal the cable's entry points.

No problem with corrosion after 5 years and I boat exclusively in SW

Glad you mentioned the sealed connector. I have also been considering that, but did not think about the splice box. I am sure that is a cheaper solution and will really be considered. Thanks for all the information.

was just curious why you disagree with the silicone spray on connections? says right on my can that will prevent corrosion, and it does, as well as making them go together and seperate easyer, that's why I offered the tip.
