I use Crisco! It protects the engine by staying really thick when it's cold!

I prefer the cradling of bunks as opposed to the pressure points of rollers, But that's when your on the road and not the ramp.

It comes down to preference in most cases.
There's really no "best" choice...too many variables in boat design/weight, launch conditions, familiarity etc...
Each individual must decide and weigh the pros and cons of each design, then become acquainted with the proper use of whatever is chosen.

Operator ignorance/error is more common than flawed design...and not just concerning boat trailers!

I think I can disagree with preference only. Roller trailer cost more than bunk trailers too. Most people I know with trailer boats and that is a huge group of people wanted a roller trailer but got the basic bunk instead and got an extra option or two on the boat instead. They pay for it instead with pain in the butt loading at many ramps and conditions. While they preferred rollers, their wallets said bunks. I have lost track of the number of times I've seen bunk trailer loaders struggle or be relegated to power loading just to get it on. It's one of the things I can count on along with death and taxes here at the dozens of MN ramps I use. Understand that many of these boaters are not idiots but the ramps are just that bad.

At my other house in the "Northwoods" of Wisconsin(where I keep the PanfishSlayer!) many of the lakes have small/steep/shallow/unimproved launches, rollers REALLY prove their worth. The effort to hand crank/cast off a boat onto/off of a roller is appreciated to say nothing of the fact that there's a wider margin of error when compensating for some of the obtuse angles/short concrete slabs the trailer may find itself on these landings. Power loading is not only discouraged, but impossible at some...unless you're willing to risk a prop/lower unit on the rocky bottoms.

Doesn't matter WHAT kinda trailer you got. This is what happens after WAAAYY too many beers out on the water.

Guy was actually heading home with it like this. Right up until the cops pulled him over 1/4 mile from the harbor.

One trailer with rollers and never again. It was the only trailer sold and replaced before the boat was 2 years old. Boats to 26' and 1 trip to a ramp to see where she had to be and never a problem at several ramps in each of 3 states. That was before the 'slick pads' that can be added today. When spending 10s of thousands on a new boat the cost of trailers is negligible at most. Bunks forever,,,
