have a leak down test done and also inspect the area where the oil pump is, to inspect use a flashinglight and look at the lower fwd end of the powerhead, had some oil pump seal issues in that model range.
also occasionally the piston ring gaps line up and can really only be detected with a leakdown test.

Thanks rodbolt, I'll look into it. 8)

And how hard would it be to change out oil seals and gaskets if necessary? Everything looks pretty basic, I usually do my own work when out of warrantee as it would cost an arm and a leg to ship to a dealer. And the rates they charge are out of this world.

look very closly at the area that the driveshaft exits the oil pump. the pump is not reparable and requires powerhead removal to access.
its also about 318 for the pump and the power head gasket is about 60 and you will need the 3 orings to remount the pump.
takes about 3 hours to change the pump.

It takes Rodbolt 3 hours to R and R a oil pump......the rest of us you can triple that (9). :^:^
