I've read here that it is a good idea to drain the VST for winterization. The thread I saw in on was referring to the bigger four strokes though, would this also be a good idea for the F115? Any other little tricks for winterizing this motor besides the usual fogging, gas treatment, and fluids change?
Thanks, Scott

Re: F115 VST

yamaha does reccomend draing the VST.
I dont but if its underwarrenty I do.
a trick is after draining the last thing you do is light the motor off and dump the fuel rail pressure. this will prevent fuel from flowing back into the pump. and some areas do better leaving the VST full while others do better draining.
but with the new E fuels all bets are off. none of us have enough practilce experience with todays fuels to say.
but my old saying goes, if it aint in there it cant go bad.
in your colde dry environment adice will be different from south florida.
ask about some of the repair shops in your area with the remembreance that EFI is EFI reguaradless of if its merc, suzy or yamaha.
they all use blow through pumps in the VST.
by blow through it means the pump is cooled by the fuel and the brushes are submerged in gas.

Re: F115 VST

Thanks for the advice guys, I'll ask around at the local shops and see what they're doing. If it turns up inconclusive I'll just drain it. Supposed to warm up to the 50's here for the next few days so I'll be doing my winterizing then (unless the lakes thaw!!)
Thanks, Scott

Gas can't go bad if it ain't there. Draining is the best route. There is a small rubber plug on top of the VST that you can pull out with a needlenose pliers. Behind that plug is an air valve like you have on your tires. That has to be open for the VST to drain. Otherwise it will only drain a small portion. You should get about a 20oz pop bottle of gas out of it. I use a large phillips screwdriver to push the valve open.
