F2.5MSHD is a 2003 motor.
Owner said it had no compression. After inspection I found the exhaust (?) valve's pushrod lying out of the rocker arm. I removed the valve because it would barely move. Cleaned the carbon and dry oil from it, soaked in carb cleaner, reinstalled and found it seated properly. As did the intake valve.
After reasembly I did a compression test and had little to no compression, so I tried to fire it up in hopes of clearing any carbon that might have been in the ring lands or on the rings themselves. It fired up, but would only idle if I kept it choked.
I then cleaned the carburetor, and found that didn't aleviate the problem. I did another compression check and after 4 cord pulls it read 140psi approx.
What do you all think??? I reused the head gasket and am wondering if that could be allowing a bad seal so compression is low..?
Also, this is the first time I've ever set valve clearance. If the valves are not clearanced to specs could that cause a loss in compression? Maybe there is simply carbon build up on the rings and it's not sealing properly? These are my main questions/suspicions.
PLEASE offer any help you can. Thanks.
