F80 Oil Contamination. Smells of gas!

My F80 is year 2000 with carbs. My crankcase oil is getting contaminated, going a creamy color. It smells faintly of gas. I have left a sample in a clear container and nothing has separated out.

If it was gas should it have separated out from the oil? If water was getting in, would that separate out?

Maybe it's something pretty basic causing it? Does anyone know what would be the most likely culprit for gas in oil with this engine?

Thanks

Andy

Your engine is "making oil". Go to the Engine FAQs and read the article about it.

JB,

Thanks, I have already read this. Most of the article relates to water contamination. The article gives this info on fuel contamination...

From FAQ..." Tiny amounts of raw fuel also leak into the crankcase on the compression stroke, potentially diluting the oil and raising the level on a cool-running motor. Or there could be a fuel system leak...."

I have looked into oil analysis but it is proving expensive to have this done in the UK. As I can smell fuel there maybe is little point in having this done. I could put the cost towards any repair.

I suppose my question really is if someone could help me troubleshoot a fuel system leak and is there something that is a likely culprit with this engine?

I'd also be keen to hear if the fuel (or water) would separate out over time?

Thanks

Andy
