Re: Facebook vacations

I had a Facebook account for about 6 months a couple years ago. I then took a permanat vacation from it. I decided (a) I didn't need to know which of my 'friends' was in the bathroom right now, and (b) I was geeting too many requests to become 'friends' with people I haven't known for 30 years- and I didn't care for them then.

I don't care for it, and I don't care about it.

Re: Facebook vacations

I've been a member of Facebook since 2009...deactivated my account in December of 2012...don't miss it...at all!

I have friends text me and ask why I'm no longer their friend on FB...I tell them I'm still their friend in real life?!

I'm mixed!?

Re: Facebook vacations

My facebook tenure lasted less than a month. Just a wrong place for a private loner to go.

Who's the author of facebook, I might like to read it. Same thing with my space, the only thing people need to know about that is, It's three feet in all directions from me.

I'm not a Facebook user (or a fan of it, honestly) - but it will be interesting to see what happens to it. It's become part of many company's marketing campaigns. Just look to the upper left of the thread pane here on iBoats.

Re: Facebook vacations

I joined Facebook over a year ago, just so I could look at things and see what all the hub-bub was about.

Yesterday, I decided to look someone up that I hadn't even thought about in 30 years. They were on it, looked older but the same. So decided to send them a message,................ end of story. Facebooks wants a dollar to send the message. Nope, I really don't have no use for it now.

That doesn't sound right. Were you actually on Facebook when you sent the message?

My main use is sharing pictures with family and friends. That's pretty much it.

I have reconnected with friends from high school and college and wouldn't have unless I used facebook. I also know a few friends that reconnected with people they used to date and are now going through divorce so there are some negatives!

Re: Facebook vacations

I've cut way back on my use. It's really gotten boring, most people just post stupid inspirational, "funny", or [insert your own descriptor] pictures now and it hs turned into a spam-fest. Really boring.

The only real use I have for it now is to send occasional messages to my kids because they check their email less than they check FB.

Occasional use here. Found some old friends from the old country on it and re-acquainted.

Re: Facebook vacations

I use it, I did not know there was a fee to send a message, if friends you message free so far. I have found people that I had not seen in years and reconnected with them on there. I ignore friend requests that I do not want, delete would be a better word. I agree that there is a lot of stuff I don't care about, that I ignore, I share some of the junk, share things I think is worth sharing, post a lot of pictures in my albums. I have never taken a vacation as such from it, I do at times not bother sharing the junk. I even created a page for work on there.

Re: Facebook vacations

I joined facebook in grad school back when you had to have a valid college email address to sign up. This was after I was pretty much the only one in my classes not on there. After I graduated I never really used it. I got an email not too long ago about a suspicious attempt to access my account. I finally thought about getting on there earlier this week and just deleted my account.

Re: Facebook vacations

Facebook to me is such a narcisistic thing as so many seem to use it. I signed up way back when only to discover that I don't care that you have a case of the Mondays and that most of the people I knew way back in HS that friended me became people I would never care to associate with. As soon as I signed up, my old HS serious GF quickly contacted me. I hadn't hear from her in 20 years. It was satisfying for her to be in awe at how far I went in life given how much of a punk I was growing up in the stick with the rest of the poor kids. I haven't logged on in ages. Linkedin makes sense.

Re: Facebook vacations

I don't pay much attention to the hype. Like others, I use it for keeping in touch with family and friends all over the world for free as well as getting information on upcoming events that I have interest in. I also have a business FB page that keeps the company name, recent jobsite pictures and information out there in the masses, just like iboats.
Obviously there are those that use it for illegal purposes, so you need to use discretion, but some just use it to paint a rosy picture of their 'e-life' to their supposed 1200 friends. If that makes them feel better, that's fine by me.
