Yes i think the little oil maids picked up the sludge and ran with it that is a dumb question u should of known that already,u never heard of the oil maids wow i can't belive that.Just like every other car who has used reg oil and sludge has built up i'm sure it gets deposited into the motor somewere.I just wanted to share a experience that i have seen with the difference with synthetic and conventional oil that was it and to hear opinions on what they thought of the oil controversy.

Very simple, but i see that most people want to comment on what i said when all i wanted was your opinions or facts on [your experiences only] with either oil and there is always a couple of people who must write posts about me when i asked for [YOUR PERSONAL EXPERIENCE NOT COMMENT ON MINE].:rolleyes:I did not start this thread to say i know the answer whether it's a fact or fiction about oils i started this post to here what peoples opinions are about the whole thing i just stated my experiences and opinions on what iv'e seen for my own 2eyes and a opinion on how i feel about the whole thing. That is it if u want to look at it any other way then i just explained then i'm sorry u feel that way.

One additional comment. Boat is floating in Synthetic land, 1999 Tahoe with 180k been synthetic all its life and running fantastic, all before that dino. ruling in my house the results of synthetic in my Tahoe has made me a believer.

if your oil is clean, your motor is dirty:eek:

HA! I agree. Judging the quality of an oil just by what color it is when it comes out seem pretty silly to me.

Ha! here's one for ya. Audi ships with Mobil 1 in all their new cars. First scheduled oil change: 10,000 miles. No that isn't a typo. 10,000 miles. Scared my buddy to death when he saw that after plunking down for a new TT a few years ago and Audi said they would VOID the warranty if he changed it any sooner.

I see the age old debate is still alive about switching back and forth between regular and synthetic oil. Some things never change -- nor do oil discussions in general. So please explain you determined Mobil 1 oil "broke down". As for draining oil and having it clean means nothing. The inside of engines and gear cases get dirty and the reason you change oil is to remove the debris so some discoloration would indicate that the detergents were doing their job perhaps??? Could it just be Amzoil did not have a good detergent package. As for switching back and forth -- it is perfectly acceptable. The only issue is that IF an engine uses some regular oil, it will use more synthetic. IF an engine has an oil leak it will leak more with synthetic. Smaller molecules is why. In fact with the quality of oils today you can even mix a quart of synthetic with regular oil or vice versa if you need to on a short term basis.

Whatever oil you choose, make sure it meets FC-W marine specifications. Most automotive synthetics don't have rust inhibitors.

FC-W is not a requirement on some motors. Automotive oil is specifically stated as acceptable for my Suzy 4-stroke.

All very good opinions and valid points but i can't see how anyone can say u don't feel or see a difference when using synthetics..

I'm saying it. You can agree or disagree, your choice. I used all that stuff in my younger days because I thought it was the right thing to do. IMO I wised up by the time I was in my 30's. In 40 years of owning and maintaining machinery, I've never had any motor or gearbox fail due to an type-of-lubricant-related problem. I've had 'em break, I've had 'em fail due a sudden lubrication loss, and I've even had a motor catch fire.

I've never seen any practical evidence that the cost of synthetics is "money well spent."

FC-W is put on oil whose companies pay to have their oils "certified" by the NMMA. Means basically nothing except for advertising purposes.

As far as Amsoil is concerned, I liked Skargo's name for them..SCAMsoil. I just hate their fake internet test websites and will never buy Amsoil because of them.

OMG  LMFAO

I fry fish in vegetable oil, use butter on my toast, the real stuff with the fat in it, we use olive oil for lots of other stuff. I really like drenching my spaghetti in Olive Oil because I saw Tommy Lasorda do it once. It's pretty good to dip bread into, but that brings me back to butter. My dogs dig bacon grease drizzled over their dry dog food, but that's pretty salty and Mrs. QC gets mad when I do it.

We haven't had a good oil thread like this in ages! OK...maybe it seems like ages.

Of course since I turned 50, the term "ages" is relative since I can't remember what I did yesterday.

When I was a kid I built a go cart we would cruse around the neighborhood. Never had much cash and we usually stole dads mower gas. The engine was a B&S 5hp horizontal shaft we pulled off a farm. It was broken and had little or no oil in it. But wait.... mom has some veggie oil under the counter. Filled it up and drove around for 2 summers. I still love the smell of french fries :)

I guess the moral is any oil is better than no oil :)

I built my go-cart in metal shop when I was 13....3 hp Tecumseh I paid $20.00 for.....didn't have to worry about synthetic oil back then...1973
