Watching a food network last night, they had on there about an insane hot sauce. They said if you put this stuff on the bottom of your boat that nothing will grow or stick to it. They also said zebra muscles won't grow on it.

Has anyone else heard of this? If it is that hot, would it cause eye irritation if you would be swimming around the boat? Not sure if I like the idea.

I've read many times about people mixing hot pepper into bottom paint. I guess it slows down marine growth because the plants don't like spicy foods. hehehe

Re: Fact or Fiction

I've talked to a bunch of people here in Tampa Bay and in Savannah and there are a bunch of people who recommend putting red pepper in your bottom paint at a rate of one pound per gallon of paint. Also had an old timer recommend putting arsenic in the paint. One guy in Savannah (which has the second highest rate of bottom growth in the nation) extended his haul out interval by 6 months with the red pepper. I have not used either, however, if I did, I'd make darn sure you let the next person who sands the paint down know what's in it...red pepper and you could have a very unhappy painter...arsenic? Eeek.
