I was interested in finding in a list of factory service manuals published by Mercury.
Repair manuals come in two flavors:
Commercial Publications:
Produced by publishing houses and sold in bookstores- like SELOC or Haynes.
These have a Library of Congress reference contained in a verso located at the beginning of the book.
Factory Publications:
Published by the company that makes the product the manual describes.
These have a part number.
The big difference is that one is contained in a library database and the other in a manufacturing database.
This explains why you won't find a factory manual at a library - because they don't have a way of cataloging it.
I own a 1971 Mercury 650 4cyl outboard and I also own a C-90-75512 service manual that covers 1975 thru 1978.
While this is useful in servicing my outboard, I would like to know the part number of the service manual that covers my outboard.
