I am currently looking at a 2008 Stingray 195FX. The sale price the dealer is showing includes a factory discount ($1,426) and a winter clearance discount certificate ($400). For negotiation purposes do these discounts cut into the dealers profit margin or are they paid by the factory. Thanks

it is all hype, from marketing. trying to move boats. sure it cuts into everyones profit. but move boats, and get rid of inventory. it cost dealers $ in interest, every day a boats sits at his dealership.

No it is just that a factory rebate you sign it over to the dealer doesn't effect dealer profit one bit. ask to see the invoice negotiate a price close to invoice plus what you think is a fair profit for the dealer and then subtract the rebate that is a fair deal.

Are boating invoices similar to car invoices, where the invoice is not what the dealer actually paid for the boat? I buy new cars at invoice all the time, does this mean they make $0. I don't think so.

On a car invoice look at the other item that says "hold back" subtract that from invoice price and that is what the dealer actually pays.

If that is all the dealer is offering, he is leaving plenty of cash on the table.

Here is stingray's incentive page.

That happened to a buddy of mine once. He bought a new Donzi from a local dealer, made his best deal, then asked about he factory rebate (which the dealer failed to mention anything about).

A little bird told me that if all the old stock boats were moved out that financing would be made more readily available to the dealers and the manufacurer eats that rebate money.

So that cuts into the money the manufacturer makes on the boat but then it is gone and they can start building new ones.

Re: Factory Incentives and Rebates

Right now we are working 3 day weeks/10 boats a day and we are getting next weeks orders this week so it is REALLY slow, normally this time of year we are getting 100-200 orders per day.

We put aside a huge amount of money to give dealer incentives to move non current boats and were told if we could get rid of all of them that financing dealers would be made easier.

It is pretty crazy, the dealers themselve can't get their floor plans underwriten even though we gaurantee the loan, so the bank actually has nothing at stake, if the dealer defaults we pay off his loans and they still won't loan anything, probably saving it for bonuses.

I'm glad I have my body shop job on the side, I am either there or at work work and the lights are still on at the house so I really can't complain.
