Failure to Start w/ignition

Our 2002 Mercury outboard will not start with the ignition. It will start on 1 pull with the cord with the ignition switch in the on position. The ignition is new and the problem developed 6-9 months after the new ignition was installed. It shuts down when I pull the kill switch cord so we are thinking that is not the problem. Any ideas? Thanks

Re: Failure to Start w/ignition

Will the starter crank the motor using the ignition switch?

If not, use a test light to verify that the starter lead on the switch is energized when the switch is turned to the start position. From there the starter lead must pass through the Neutral safety switch in the control box, then on to the starter relay.

Verify power at each point when the key is turned to start.
