fainting mongomery ward twin

hello i have a montgomery ward twin long shaft outboard 8hp? all selfcontained gas good for portages and what not but after running for five to ten min it konks out it will troll all day but at top only little while ? dont think its sopose to be watercooled so dont know if its a carb problem or pump issue, got for free so dont want to stick money in to it lol any help is much welcomed

Post the model number, Boatbird, so we will know what it is and who made it.

I think that motor is water cooled but has no pisser indicator. This is only a guess from other sears motors from around that time.<br />Eric<br /><br />EDIT: I might be thinking of Eaton's actually...

I know of no air cooled twins sold by Sears. It could be a Gale, West Bend or Chrysler engine. If it's a Gale it is well worth fixing up.

the outboard is a montgomery ward ? <br />and the model # is 84GG9014A

Yup, that is a Gale made engine. The GG in the model number gives that away. Sorry about "Sears". I always did get then confused.<br /><br />Don't have the reference on Gales, but someone should be along soon to ID it.
